Join a Microsoft Teams meeting on a second device (2024)

If you've joined a meeting on one device, you can join it on another device at the same time. For example, if you're already in a meeting on your laptop, you can also join on your phone to share live video, control a presentation with your phone, and much more.

You can either transfer the meeting to the second device or keep both devices in the meeting. 

Transfer a meeting from one device to another

  1. While you're in a meeting on one device, open Teams on the second one (the device you want to transfer the meeting to).

  2. From the new device, select Join call.

  3. SelectTransfer to this device.

  4. You can set your audio and video preferences for the meeting on the new device, then select Join.

Once you're in the meeting on the new device, your first device will leave the meeting. 

Add a second device to a meeting

  1. While you're in a meeting on one device, open Teams on the second one.

  2. From the second device, select Join.

  3. Select Add this device.

To prevent an echo effect, Teams will automatically turn off the camera and mic on the second device before it enters the meeting. Once it's joined, you'll be able to turn the mic and camera on or off as needed.

With both devices in the meeting, you can now share content from either one.

Leave a meeting on all devices

Ensure your privacy by leaving your meeting from allthe devices you joined on with one tap. Whether you enteredthe meeting from amobile phone, desktop, or Teams Room, you can close out your call on everything at once.

To leave a meeting on all devices:

  1. In your Teams meeting window, select the arrow next toLeave to open the Leave meeting dropdown menu.

  2. Select Leave on all my devices.

You can use your phone as a companion device for both in-person and virtual meetings.

Important:Make sure you've updated to the latest version of Teams on your phone before joining it as a companion device.

Add your mobile device as a companion device to a nearby meeting

If you're attending an in-person meeting that has a Microsoft Teams Room or Surface Hub set as the location, you can join with your mobile device once you're there. You can join when the meeting starts, or any time during the meeting.

Note:You must be in the same org as the Teams Room or Surface Hub meeting to use your iPhone as a room companion device.

Note:This feature is available for Android and iPhone. For Surface Hub, the room remote option on your iPhone may not work. Room remote support on Surface Hub coming soon.

  1. From your device, turn on Bluetooth and make sure it's enabled for Teams.

  2. Open Teams while you're in the meeting room.

  3. Tap Join with roomat the bottom of your screenor Join at the top of your screen.You'll be joined in the room and on your iPhone at the same time.

Once it's joined and you've moved away from the meeting room, you'll be able to turn the speaker, camera, and mic on or off as needed and you can react, chat, share, and more.

Add your phone as a companion device to a virtual meeting

If you've joined a meeting on your laptop, you have the option to join it on your phone at the same time. This can come in handy if, for example, there's some content on your phone you'd like to share. 

  1. While you're in a meeting on one device, open Teams on the second one. Tap Join.

  2. Tap Add this device.

Turn on your speaker, camera, or mic from a companion device

If you've moved away from a nearby or virtual meeting, you can turn on your speaker, camera, or mic from your companion device to engage in the conversation.

  1. To turn on your speaker, just tap Speaker Join a Microsoft Teams meeting on a second device (11)at the bottom of your screen.

  2. To turn on your camera or mic, tapCamera Join a Microsoft Teams meeting on a second device (13)or Mic Join a Microsoft Teams meeting on a second device (14)at the bottom of your screen.

  3. Then tap Enable.

Now you can useyour speaker, camera, or mic as needed.
