Why is Romanian life expectancy so low?
Romania is one of the poorest countries in Europe.
In addition to the poor healthcare system, the European Commission report shows that unhealthy habits contribute to almost half of all deaths in Bulgaria and Romania. "Romania reports higher alcohol consumption and unhealthier diets than EU averages".
Most deaths in Romania are due to either cardiovascular diseases or cancer (Figure 2).
Males born in the Lesotho have the lowest life expectancy of the world in 2022. Similarly low is the life expectancy for females born in this country. The average woman lives only 56 years. The lowest life expectancy for women in the world in 2022 was for girls born in Nigeria, with only 54 years.
This statistic shows the average life expectancy at birth in Romania from 2011 to 2021, by gender. In 2021, life expectancy at birth for women in Romania was about 76.7 years, while life expectancy at birth for men was about 69.4 years on average.
Asian people have the longest average life expectancy (83.5 years) and American Indian/Alaska Natives the shortest (65.2 years).
In Romania, more than 5 million people are living in poverty — 1.5 million of those are children. Nearly 8.5 million people (41.2% of the Romanian population) have no bath or shower or access to running water.
Dracula and Gothic / Vampire Legends
Romania's association with this iconic vampire character has drawn many tourists to visit the region of Transylvania, where Dracula's legend originates. Many know about Dracula, but too few made the link with the country, and do not understand why is Romania famous.
The main causes of death in Romania in 2021 were diseases of the circulatory system, followed by tumors. Men had a higher mortality rate for tumors, digestive tract diseases and traumatic injuries compared to women.

Corruption and organized crime are also important issues in the country, although they are less frequent in terms of reported cases.
Why is the US life expectancy so low?
But in 2020, life expectancy fell to 77 and dropped further to 76.4 in 2021, according to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This alarming trend is clearly not an anomaly and is primarily due to heart disease, cancer, COVID-19 and the ongoing drug-overdose epidemic.
On the other hand, Mississippi has the lowest life expectancy across all states at 71.9 years. It's followed by West Virginia and Louisiana, with life expectancies of 72.8 years and 73.1 years, respectively.
The countries with the lowest life expectancy worldwide include the Chad, Nigeria, and Lesotho. As of 2021, people born in Chad could be expected to live only up to 53 years.
Linguistically, Romanians are Latin with Slavic influences and culturally they are unique, but do share similarities with other Latins as well as with their South Slavic neighbors.
Romania is one of the most attractive destinations for expats looking for a cheap but comfortable place to live. Bucharest ranks 160th among 209 cities in the world in the ranking of the cost of living, which was compiled by the international company Mercer.
Family Structure
Families have become smaller and extended family ties less extensive. The nuclear family structure is the most common household configuration. Many single Romanians may also choose to live alone.
AIAN people had the lowest life expectancy at 71.8 years, followed by Black people at 74.8. These groups both had lower life expectancies than White people, whose life expectancy was 78.8 years. Hispanic and Asian people had longer life expectancies of 81.9 and 85.6 years, respectively.
The life expectancy at birth was higher among o Christians 68.1 years (95% CI 66.44 - 69.60) than Muslims 66.0 years (95% CI 65.29 - 66.54) and Hindus 65.0 years (95% CI 64.74 -65.22).
Asian Americans enjoy the longest life expectancy of any racial or ethnic group (87.3 years) in the U.S. today. Latinos enjoy the 2nd longest life expectancy of any racial or ethnic groups in the U.S. today. They live, on average to 83.5 years.
Romanians are usually very generous and proud of their food. They generally appreciate it when others enjoy their traditional cuisine.
Does Romania have a homeless problem?
Romania had issues with homeless people years ago, but in present year 2023 there are no serious issues with homeless in Romania, or at least a lot less problems than in most of the world. For instance Romania has only half the homeless in comparison with Sweden.
Romanians are very proud of the fact that they held onto their land over a history of invasion. However, this has also produced cultural differentiations across the country.
Romania remains a primary source country for sex trafficking and labor trafficking victims in Europe. The vast majority of identified victims are female sex trafficking victims exploited in Romania and other European countries, including Austria, Ireland, Italy, Spain, and the UK.
Romania has one of the most extensive rail lines in the world, so it is so easy to get from city to city, without the need for a car or a plane ticket. What's more, the Romanian people are so kind and hospitable, they love having visitors and sharing their culture and history.
Romanians are also proud of their authentic rural life, with its traditions, simple life, hard work, and respect for the land. All of them are still considered today as some of the most important values of the Romanian nation.
